California Earthquakes and California Petroglyphs
Petroglyphs have not generally been interpreted as a reflection
of earthquake or volcanic activity, but a recent article in
American Scientist suggests that California's earliest "writings"
may in fact provide a record of California's earliest historic
earthquakes and volcanic activity.
The article can hopefully be found at here. If the link doesn't work, visit the American Scientist home page and search the archive for the July-August, 2004, "Macroscope" essay.
