April 1997 to June 1998 Highlights for the SCIGN GPS Network

New SCIGN installed sites:

1.Lake Skinner(BILL).

2.Wide Canyon(WIDC).

Sites taken Over by USGS:

1.Lancaster Injection(LINJ).

2.Palos Verdes(PVEP).

Major Technical Highlights for April 1997 to June 1998:

Worked closely with USGS personnel looking for new site locations in Ventura, Los Angeles, and Orange Counties. Several of these sites have been picked for the location of new SCIGN sites.

Made the selection of the solar electric system for use at new SCIGN sites that will require solar power. The systems can also been used for emergency response.

Worked very closely with USGS personnel in the testing of cutting edge RTK GPS experiments. These tests are on going, and if successful will be deployed in the SCIGN Network, and deployed for emergency response in real time.

Worked with the contractor that SCIGN has been tasked with the job of installing 200 new GPS sites. Helped in the selection and design of the enclosure, enclosure wiring, and enclosure cooling. We also helped the contractor with issues as they came up. For example, the site at Rialto High School had bad data. The problem was found to be a bad coaxial cable, also troubleshooting phone line problems at the new sites.
